Converting a garage is one of the easiest ways of getting extra space in your home, without adding an entire room. By taking care of waterproofing, opening up windows and bringing up a wall, you can convert your garage into a bedroom or family room. Remember, that a garage conversion will include electric and plumbing work, and installation of heating and cooling systems. You can also create additional storage space to continue using your garage to hold seasonal items and materials, household and gardening tools etc.
Your garage conversion plan should include co ordination with the rest of the house. For instance, if you are replacing the garage door with a window, make sure it blends in with the other windows of the house. The point is to make it look like it's an integral part of the house. When it comes to interiors however, you can let your imagination run wild. Ask your garage contractor about upgrades to be made to the roof and walls. If you have a flat roof, you may need to upgrade it before you invest in converting the garage into a livable space.
Look into local Columbus, OH area building code requirements before you begin your garage addition project. You may not always be able to convert your garage for a specific purpose. Make sure all building permits are in place before you begin converting your garage. Plan your garage addition at least the few months before work begins to ensure a hassle free project.
